The Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) provides two types of scholarships for those who qualify.

ype A (Full Scholarship)

Eligibility Criteria for Shanghai Government Scholarship

To qualify for the Shanghai Government Scholarship, candidates must satisfy all the requirements outlined.

  • Required Languages: Generally, applicant should achieve Chinese level of HSK4 and meet the language requirements of the applied university and program.
  • Eligible Countries: All World Countries except Chinese citizens.
  • Candidates must not hold Chinese citizenship and must be in good physical condition.
  • Candidates applying for the pre-college program are required to possess a high school diploma and be no older than 23 years of age.
  • To be eligible for the bachelor degree program, candidates must possess a high school diploma and be below the age of 25.
  • To be eligible for the master’s degree program, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be below the age of 35.
  • Candidates seeking admission to the doctoral degree program must hold a master’s degree and be below the age of 40.
  • Outstanding in academic performance.
  • Satisfying the admission criteria for the desired university and program.
  • Individuals who have been awarded scholarships from the Chinese government or affiliated organizations are ineligible to apply for the SGS program.

How to Apply for Shanghai Government Scholarship?

  1. Prospective candidates are required to complete their registration and application process via the website http://study.edu.sh.gov.cn/en/ise.html. After submitting their application online, they can then proceed to download the application form.
  2. Prospective candidates are required to complete the online registration and application process via the designated university’s website (refer to the list of universities provided). Once registered, applicants must submit their application electronically and make the necessary payment for the application fee, if applicable.
  3. Upon completing the online application, retrieve and print the application form. Send two sets of hard-copy application documents (one original set and one photocopy set) to the university you have applied to via mail.
